Metallurgical machinery refers collectively to the machinery and equipment required for the production of iron, steel, and non-ferrous metal materials; it is also known as metallurgical equipment. The production processes for metal materials are complex and demand high levels of continuity, mechanization, and automation; for instance, complete continuous casting and rolling equipment-exemplified by thin-slab continuous casting and rolling lines-has successfully integrated these two stages into a continuous process. Beyond high-temperature pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgical processes are frequently employed for the extraction of certain non-ferrous and rare metals, as well as for processing refractory or low-grade ores that are difficult to beneficiate or smelt; the machinery used in these processes includes extractors, electrolytic equipment, autoclaves, filters, and centrifuges.

 

The machinery involved is heavy and massive, characterized by highly integrated equipment sets and high energy consumption; in 2024, the metallurgical machinery industry generated operating revenue of 127.3 billion yuan. Operating conditions are harsh, typically involving high temperatures, heavy loads, dust, and corrosive environments. Currently, the industry is evolving toward compact structures, efficient drive systems, intelligent controls, green production, and high-precision products, while actively exploring the integrated application of emerging technologies. The State Administration for Market Regulation has approved and issued multiple national standards-including those for metallurgical machinery-to enhance the safety and reliability of engineering equipment. In February 2026, a 3,800mm hot straightener developed by Taiyuan Heavy Industry Group was shipped overseas. There are several major manufacturers within the domestic metallurgical machinery industry.
