Metallurgical machinery is primarily categorized into four major groups based on production processes: smelting equipment, continuous casting equipment, rolling (calendering) equipment, and downstream finishing equipment.
① Smelting equipment primarily includes blast furnaces, converters, and electric arc furnaces, as well as machinery for producing artificial enriched ore and metallurgical coke (such as sintering, pelletizing, and coke oven equipment) and systems for hot metal pretreatment and ladle refining used in clean steel production. In the realm of green smelting, it also encompasses high-efficiency environmental protection equipment, such as bag-type dust collectors for sintering machine head flue gas.
② Continuous casting equipment primarily includes complete sets of machinery for the continuous casting of slabs, billets, tube rounds, and shaped blanks.
③ Rolling (calendering) equipment primarily includes complete sets of cold and hot rolling mills for various products such as plates, pipes, profiles, and wire rods. Examples include wide-format hot levelers for medium-to-heavy plate production lines and complete equipment systems for the high-precision rolling of ultra-thin stainless steel strips.
④ Downstream finishing equipment primarily includes complete sets of machinery for the post-processing and deep processing of rolled products. Examples include longitudinal and transverse shearing lines, continuous pickling and annealing units, coating and composite material production lines (such as hot-dip galvanizing, electro-galvanizing, electro-tinning, and organic coating lines), and wire drawing and rope-making equipment. Modern finishing equipment is increasingly integrating intelligent technologies, such as online quality control systems incorporating 3D vision, laser measurement and control, and artificial intelligence, as well as smart, unmanned workshops featuring fully automated material handling and warehousing.
Additionally, based on the functions of key auxiliary systems, metallurgical equipment can be further subdivided by process stage: hydraulic systems for coking (used in coal charging cars, stamping machines, coke pushers, and other coke oven machinery); blast furnace hydraulic systems (supporting equipment at the furnace top, furnace front, stockhouse, and hot blast stoves); steelmaking hydraulic systems (applied to electric arc furnace electrode control, converter movable hood control, etc.); continuous casting hydraulic systems; reheating furnace hydraulic systems (used for walking-beam furnaces); and pipe rolling mill hydraulic systems (covering stages such as piercing, rolling, and straightening).
