Silicon carbide bricks are refractory materials made primarily from silicon carbide (SiC). They possess a Mohs hardness of 9 and exhibit good stability against acidic slags. Their SiC content ranges from 72% to 99%. Varieties include clay-bonded, Si3N4-bonded, Sialon-bonded, β-SiC-bonded, Si2ON2-bonded, and recrystallized silicon carbide bricks. They are primarily used in applications such as retorts for non-ferrous metallurgy, aluminum casting molds, electric furnace linings, and heat exchangers.

 

These are refractory products manufactured primarily from silicon carbide, with an SiC content of 72% to 99%. Typically, black silicon carbide (with an SiC content exceeding 96%) serves as the raw material; the bricks are produced through processes involving batching, mixing, forming, and firing, with or without the addition of a bonding agent. The primary crystalline phase is silicon carbide. Major types include oxide-bonded, carbon-bonded, nitride-bonded, self-bonded, recrystallized, and semi-silicon carbide bricks. Characterized by excellent wear and erosion resistance, high high-temperature strength, good thermal shock stability, high thermal conductivity, and a low coefficient of thermal expansion, they are classified as high-performance refractory materials.
